Have you ever wanted to go to the South Pole? Well, I have and I'm still going to want to after this trip because a voyage to Antarctica doesn't even get close. As you can see on the map, the ship - the Sea Spirit - only goes to about 65º South Latitude, which is 35º from the South Pole. Degrees of Latitude are about 69 miles apart so at it's southernmost point, the ship will still be approximately 2,400 miles from the pole or about the distance from San Francisco to Cleveland.
Nonetheless, it should be an interesting adventure but this time the polar adventure will be with penguins instead of bears. Did you know there are no bears in the Southern Hemisphere and no penguins in the Northern Hemisphere? (This is not entirely true since there are penguins in the Galapagos - slightly North of the Equator).
The adventure will begin on Saturday and start with a stop in Buenos Aires for two days so stay tuned for some thoughts and pictures.
